Hello, my name is Mary Louise King. I graduated from WVU in 1976 and moved to the Charleston area in 1978 At birth, I was handicapped in my legs and feet and my orthopedic doctor gave me exercises for posture and prescribed ballet, tap, gymnastics, and swimming to strengthen my frame. I was able to overcome my handicaps and chose WVU to become a Physical Therapist. During my college years, my mom asked me to change my major to interior design so I could help our family business. Later, at the age of 49, I had an accident and ruptured a disc in my back which disabled my left leg and caused great pain. I discovered that physical movements like those in Yoga and Pilates exercises worked the best to encourage me and uplift my spirit as well as to coax my left leg to function, easing tension in my back. I also regained strength by joining older adult SilverSneakers® classes. Over a period of three years, I became pain free. At that time, I decided to follow my dream of helping others. I am fully trained in SilverSneakers® and certified to teach Yoga, Pilates, Group Exercise, and to be a Personal Trainer. My national certifications are from AFAA, Fitour, and NESTA, National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association, as well as CPR/AED. This education, combined with my art background, has helped me to see the body as a work of art, able to be sculpted by strengthening and stretching the muscles so that the spine and skeletal frame can be brought back into proper alignment. My classes and personal training sessions emphasize proper posture and skills to strengthen the interior core muscles of the abdomen to encourage a firmer, slimmer appearance. I also offer resistance training with hand-held weights and additional training in the fitness room. Each class or session is designed to assist you in the transformation and reshaping of your body. My goal is to help you change a flabby body into a tighter and leaner one that is also flexible. Every day, I find my motivation in knowing that I can help others to make positive changes in their lives. I am here to help anyone at any age or strength level.
If you want an Individual training session with me, I will encourage you to overcome physical weaknesses, find balance, breathe deeply, and build stamina. I will strive to help you to bring out your best Posture, Strength, Joint Range of Motion, and Flexibility.
If you are a member of Active Sports Complex, Personal Training is $35.00 per hour and non-members is $40.00 per hour.

Pilates, Yoga, and Yoga/Pilates classes consist of fluid rhythmic movements that coordinate with the natural ebb and flow pattern of the breath. With practice, this style of exercise eases strain, improves body shape, facilitates flexibility, stabilizes the center of balance, oxygenates the body, and promotes a sense of well being.
SilverSneakers® MSROM and SilverSneakers® YogaStretch classes perform similar movements as the mat-based classes, except all exercises are taught seated in a chair or standing beside a chair for support
